Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is seeking a fourth term in the Senate.

Sanders, 82, made his bid for reelection Monday on X, formerly Twitter.

The senator cited threats to democracy at home and abroad as his reasons to seek reelection, per the HuffPost .

In his video announcement, Sanders talked about wealth inequality, climate change, health care, and abortion rights. He also referred to the upcoming presidential election as “the most consequential election in our lifetimes.”

“Will the United States continue to even function as a democracy, or will we move to an authoritarian form of government?” Sanders said.

Sanders serves as chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions Committee.

As a member of the Senate Democratic leadership team, Sanders has also been watching what happens in the Israel-Hamas War closely.

“Israel had the absolute right to defend itself against this terror attack, but it did not and does not have the right to go to war against the entire Palestinian people which is exactly what it is doing,” Sanders said.

Sanders would be 89 years old when he completes another term if reelected.
