The Big Beers Festival relocates to Breckenridge and becomes a non-profit after 16 years in Vail.
Ever since the Vail Cascade Resort was sold in 2015, rumors flew and people were devastated that the Big Beers Festival might be done for good. After all, this festival has taken place in Vail for the past 16 years. However, the good news is that the Big Beers, Belgians, and Barleywines festival was able to restructure the event and ultimately find a new home. The new home you ask? Breckenridge. “Many different locations were considered, with proximity to (Denver International Airport), event space and access to the mountain being primary issues,” Laura Lodge, event coordinator said. “We really did some soul searching to define what the Big Beers experience really includes.”Not only was a new home found for this festival due to the eagerness of Breckenridge and Beaver Run Resort, but also a new purpose. The Big Beers Festival is now a non-profit organization with the mission statement, “To provide education for and about the brewing industry”.“The need for education about and within the beer industry, especially when combined with the ability to offer support to our community, is more important than just ‘here and now,’” Laura Lodge stated. “We want to continue and expand upon this mission in a way that will continue beyond us for years to come.”Therefore, for all you craft beer lovers and followers, it’s safe to say that the festival will continue on better and stronger than ever. Luckily, it has relocated close to Vail.
