COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– A bill designed to bolster horse-racing in South Carolina may not cross the finish line. The South Carolina Equine Advancement Act is currently stalled in the Senate.

The measure would create a new grant program designed to bolster funding for the horse industry in the state. Supporters of the measure gathered at the State House on Tuesday.

According to the State Department of Agriculture, horse racing has a nearly $2 billion a year impact on the state’s economy and close to 30 thousand jobs are associated with or dependent on the industry.
