LAWRENCE, Kan. (WIBW) - Former Kansas men’s basketball All-American Jacque Vaughn joins Bill Self’s staff as the team’s newest assistant coach. Vaughn replaces Norm Roberts who announced his retirement earlier this month.

He served as an NBA head coach for five-plus seasons with the Orlando Magic and Brooklyn Nets. Vaughn’s coached a number of NBA All-Stars including Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.

“I’ve known Jacque from a distance for several years now and have always admired how he has conducted himself professionally and how he has treated people,” Kansas head coach Bill Self said in a statement.

The KU alum played four seasons in Lawrence from 1993-1997. He finished his career as the Big Eight Conference’s all-time assists leader with 804 - ranking 3rd all-time at KU. He earned second-team All-American honors his senior year under Roy Williams and is only one of two Jayhawks (Cole Aldrich) to be named the Academic All-American of the Year.

“I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to bring those experiences back to the school that means so much to me,” Vaughn told KU Athletics. “It’s a blessing to once again be part of the Jayhawk tradition.”
