Tara Savannah Payne went missing in Canton late in the evening on March 23.

The search for a missing woman in Baltimore has ended in sadness. On March 23, 2021, 26-year-old Tara Savannah Payne went missing after an outing with friends in Canton, Maryland. After an extensive search, police announced they believed that Payne, who goes by Savannah, may have fallen into the water near Boston St.

After an overnight search, the woman’s body was located by police divers a few days later, on March 25. The body was transported to the Medical Examiner’s office where an autopsy will be performed. Police are still investigating how and why the young woman ended up in the water.

Savannah Payne had been celebrating her birthday with friends in the Canton area on Tuesday night. She was last seen near the 2800 block of O'Donnell Street at 1:30 a.m. Her family said her purse was found inside her parked car and neighbors heard a commotion in the area about the same time she went missing.

The Baltimore City Police’s Marine Unit and Maryland Natural Resources Police began a search in the water near Boston St. on March 24 and increased the search perimeter to include the water near Bo Brooks and the Lighthouse Point Marina. Her body was located the next day in the water near the 1200 block of Dockside Circle.

Payne’s family has created a GoFundMe page to help pay for her funeral expenses. An obituary posted for Savannah says she graduated high school in Westminster, Maryland, and loved the beach. She spent summers bartending in Ocean City and Annapolis and her family hopes to use proceeds from the GoFundMe to set up memorials in both cities.

A vigil will be held on Monday night at Southern Provisions at 5 p.m.
