The scariest thing coming soon is not necessarily Halloween.

Most weather experts agree that the DMV region should get ready to experience a severe winter. According to one more credible source, AccuWeather, the DMV region should expect heavy rains and icy winds—starting from the middle of January and continuing until the end of February 2020. It is more likely that the area will get more than the usual mix of rain and snow this season.

Paul Pastelo, the AccuWeather Expert Long-Range Forecaster adds,

“I think you’re going to see a touch of winter come in in December. But I think its full force will hold out until after the new year.”

Once the cold period begins, an active season will kick in. Along with the cold winds and icy rain, there is a chance the DMV region could embrace a winter storm, similar to last season, which could bring in a lot of snow.

The Farmers’ Almanac has already predicted a winter season filled with lots of ice and rain for the DMV region. This means that the Farmers’ Almanac is on course to predict an accurate weather forecast far ahead of time. The almanac has dubbed the 2019-2020 winter season the “Polar Coaster Winter,” with freezing temperatures and snow expected across the country.

There are also predictions of an Arctic blast in February and a freezing Valentine’s Day (oh, the irony!). The good news is that Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year will be milder.

“Wintry mix” storms (which mean a combination of ice, snow, and rain) will sweep the region throughout the first quarter of 2020, so plan ahead and we will update you with the latest developments. Stay tuned—or in our case, stay logged in (Pun intended.)
