ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) - The Brush Mountain Fire , burning near the Roanoke County/Craig County line, is about 90 acres and 35% contained as of early Sunday, according to the Virginia Department of Forestry .

Earlier estimates indicated the fire had grown to 200-250 acres.

The fire was reported Saturday around the 8800 block of Newport Road.

The fire is under the command of the U.S. Forest Service.

The Roanoke County Fire Marshal’s Office reports the fire is still under investigation, with the cause not determined.

Firefighters are asking people to avoid the area due to smoke and the amount of fire apparatus on the road.

The fire has not affected any structures, and there are no evacuations, according to firefighters.

While no evacuation orders are currently in place, residents in the Equestrian Hills neighborhood (Arabian Lane and Filly Ct.) were told late Saturday to remain aware that there is an active wildfire in the area and be ready to go if necessary.

If evacuation orders are given, they will be communicated by crews going door to door in that area, and on the Roanoke County Fire and Rescue Facebook page. The effort to contain this fire will go well into tomorrow, March 23rd.

Firefighters say homes on Arabian Lane are being protected.
