BWX Technologies has appointed
Kevin McCoy ,
Joseph Miller and
Kate Kelly to
key executive positions . The Lynchburg, Virginia-based company said Monday McCoy will serve as chief nuclear officer, Miller as president of government operations and Kelly as president of advanced technologies.
Kevin McCoy
As the new chief nuclear officer, McCoy will work with the Department of Defense and the Department of the Navy to boost the production of Columbia and Virginia-class submarines. The veteran defense industry executive with over 40 years of experience in shipyard and nuclear operations has served as president of government operations since joining the company in 2021. Before BWXT, McCoy was president at Irving Shipbuilding for nearly eight years. He also served as commander of the Naval Sea Systems Command and chief engineer of the U.S. Navy. He started his career as a shipyard commander at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.
Joe Miller
Miller, a 14-year veteran of BWXT, was most recently the president of advanced technologies. The subsidiary significantly expanded its program during his tenure and was awarded two major advanced nuclear microreactor contracts. The executive also held the positions of general manager, director of programs and technology development, systems design manager and test engineering manager. He was a test engineer when he joined BWXT in 2011. Before that, Miller worked at Samsung Austin Semiconductor from 2005 to 2011 and at
HII’ s Newport News Shipbuilding. He also served in the Navy from 1998 to 2004.
Kate Kelly
Kelly will take over Miller after serving as the director of space and emerging programs for over three years, overseeing the company’s space and advanced manufacturing portfolio. She also held various leadership roles, including product line manager, project manager, project engineer, quality analyst and operational excellence team leader of the nuclear operations group.
