Decades of ivory tower Marxist indoctrination have overturned the melting pot and rendered the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream a nightmare. No longer do the elite institutions of higher learning seek to “transform the jangling discords of our nation into a beautiful symphony of brotherhood.” Discord is the norm.

Revolutionary students at Columbia, where the cost of attendance is $89,587 a year, were so keen to cast themselves as oppressed that they attempted to take over a campus building without bothering to make necessary preparations. Just before getting the boot from New York’s finest, a privileged plotter insisted that provisions were the responsibility of school administrators.

“Do you want students to die of starvation or dehydration or get severely ill even if they disagree with you?” she asked in front of a bank of microphones, wearing the scarf of a Palestinian. “If the answer is ‘no,’ you should allow basic humanitarian aid.”

The students are desperate to signal solidarity with the Gaza Strip in its mortal struggle against Israel. The lesson we should draw from the commotion is that it is unwise to import blood feuds from outside the United States.

While a band of pampered, comically unprepared students waving Palestinian flags holding a campus lawn hostage is no big deal, events did escalate. After arrests were made, police discovered many of the violent agitators weren’t students.

Deported Palestinian activist Sami Al-Arian tweeted a photo of his wife inside the Columbia encampment, leading New York officials to suggest, given their history, more outsiders like them could be instigators.

Ivy League brawling is a mere foretaste of the upheaval to come if the administration’s reckless immigration policies continue. Uninvited visitors to this country no longer need to learn our language or adopt American values. Indeed, liberals insist recent arrivals cling to the national identity of their homeland.

Though the media are obsessed with Israel and Ukraine, conflict abounds elsewhere. Waves of illegal immigration come from global hot spots such as Burkina Faso, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Mali, Myanmar, Niger and Sudan, where fighting claims lives by the tens of thousands. And when fighting-age men from those countries arrive, they don’t necessarily leave ethnic hatred and grudges behind.

The House Homeland Security Committee on Tuesday released documents confirming the administration’s scheme to flood the country with 404,000 illegal immigrants from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela. Each was handed a plane ticket to one of 50 airports around the country, courtesy of left-wing nongovernmental organizations. And 1.6 million noncitizens are standing by, waiting for the next round of freebies.

Lest there be any doubt about the purpose of this ambitious project, look no further than here in the District of Columbia, where earlier this year illegal aliens were given the vote. A noncitizen has been elected to an Advisory Neighborhood Commission position.

Technically, foreigners are supposed to vote only in city elections, but lax rules and ballot drop boxes aren’t much of a barrier to illicit participation in the presidential race. If nothing else, the District’s irresponsible scheme instills a habit of voting that unlawful residents might carry with them to other jurisdictions.

A better alternative would be to secure freedom and tranquility at home for all Americans by not becoming wrapped up in the concerns of faraway nations.
