Last week, the Trump administration fired more than 10,000 federal workers across multiple agencies as part of its "large-scale reductions" in the government workforce.

USA TODAY reports the terminations were government-wide: from the Department of Education and Small Business Administration to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Forest Service, the Department of Veterans Affairs and the agency that oversees the nation's fleet of nuclear weapons.

Several Floridians who worked for federal agencies are unexpectedly finding themselves out of a job and wondering if the state's unemployment benefits are available to them.

Here's what to know about how to apply, file weekly claims and your workers' rights.

Are federal workers eligible for unemployment in Florida?



Yes, Florida federal employees who lose their jobs can apply for unemployment benefits under the Unemployment Compensation for Federal Employees program , which is administered by the states and the same as regular unemployment insurance benefits.

UCFE claims should be filed in the state where the federal employee’s last official duty station was located.

The amount you receive will be based on what you are earning and state maximums. States also determine the number of weeks UCFE is payable. UCFE is taxable income.
