The Cardinals are enduring a rough roller coaster ride of a month. St. Louis (37-35) was unable to salvage a split of its four-game set with the Milwaukee Brewers (39-34), dropping the series finale 3-2 at American Family Field. The club's up-and-down month of June continued on Sunday afternoon. After starting the month by losing three of its first four contests, the Redbirds rebounded by earning a series win over the Dodgers, who lead the National League West with 43 wins. However, since then, St. Louis has lost seven of its last eight games and own the third-worst record in Major League Baseball this month (4-10). The Brewers held a 3-1 lead after seven frames, but Ivan Herrera supplied a spark for the Cardinals in the eighth inning, crushing his eighth home run of the season to pull the team within one run of tying the game. The Redbirds put two runners on base to start the final frame but struck out three straight times against Trevor Megill to end the game. Herrera, Brendan Donovan and Nolan Gorman each recorded two-hit efforts at the dish, powering the club's nine-hit performance. However, St. Louis stranded seven players on base and finished hitless (0-for-7) with runners in scoring position. Miles Mikolas tallied a quality start on the mound, allowing just two runs on six hits while striking out seven batters over six innings. However, he was charged with the loss, evening his record (4-4) on the season. Up next - The Cardinals wrap up their seven-game road trip with a visit to Chicago to face the White Sox. First pitch of this three-game series is scheduled for Tuesday, June 17 at 6:40 p.m.
