A good book is a great (and less expensive) way of taking advantage of some of the downtime you might have this summer! You can go on an adventure, get to know different people, and learn about different experiences -- all from the comfort of your couch or bed. Here are some books about the Eastern Shore you might want to add to your reading list!
Author: Frederick Douglass
The
Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass recounts the life of the infamous escaped slave, writer, newspaper editor, orator, and abolitionist -- all in his own words. You are a witness to Douglass's vivid details of his experiences as an enslaved person, growing up in Talbot County, and his escape from Maryland's Eastern Shore to freedom in the North. Through this book, you'll learn more about the history of Talbot County, the experiences of African Americans in the 1800s, and the life of one of the Eastern Shore's most famous residents!
