The Charleston County School Board has unanimously agreed to a revision of district policy to admit a limited number out-of-county students whose parents or legal guardians serve as active-duty military members stationed at Joint Base Charleston.

Berkeley County and Dorchester 2 school districts have already implemented a similar plan, Jeff Borowy, CCSD's chief operating officer, said previously.

The provision does not include enrollment in magnet or charter schools, only neighborhood schools.

The revision states that CCSD must receive written confirmation of the military personnel’s status from an official at Joint Base Charleston and also include the time frame in which the military personnel will be stationed there.

Transportation to or from the school must be provided by the parent.

Enrollment approval depends on space availability at the school. If approved, the student may remain enrolled until completing the school’s highest grade level. Out-of-county tuition will not be assessed for these students.
