(ST. JOSEPH, Mo.) A Central High School assistant principal has earned an honor from the Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals.

Central's Shawn Gilliland was surprised with the honor of Northwest Missouri Assistant Principal. on Thursday afternoon.

Gilliland has spent more than 20 years including 21 years as a math teacher.

She joined the school's staff in 2001.
