Cheyenne Mountain Zoo celebrates the life of a newborn giraffe!
Cheyenne Mountain Zoo just successfully birthed its 199th giraffe since the zoo opened its doors. This is mother Msitu's second and third for father, Khalid. Amy Schilz, animal care manager states,
Msitu was a great mom to her first calf, Emy, so she knew exactly what to do when this baby was born. Since mom and baby appear to be healthy, our vet team has not needed to intervene. It’s best to let nature take its course.”
The weight, gender, and height of the calf is not yet known, nor is the name, but this will sure keep us all on our toes! For the sake of mom and baby, the giraffe barn is currently closed to visitors, but the other 15 giraffes are out in the yard and can be viewed on their live online camera. Below you can check out some pictures of our adorable new friend at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo!
