Chicagoans can expect a significant uptick in temperatures this week, with the mercury set to rise well into the 90s. According to the National Weather Service , today will bring mostly sunny skies with a tolerable high near 78 degrees and an east wind traveling at a gentle 5 to 10 mph.

However, the heat is slated to intensify, steering clear of the mid-week forecast. On Tuesday, "A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 4pm," the National Weather Service explains, forecasting a high near 91 degrees with the possibility of gusts as high as 15 mph. Transitioning into the evening, the city faces a 70 percent chance of continued weather disruption.

Mid-week instability looms, indicating a higher probability of showers and potential thunderstorms on Wednesday. "Our highest chance of a shower or thunderstorm will be on Wednesday," FOX 32 Chicago outlines, noting that severe weather could be on the cards and daytime highs will remain in the 80s.

Looking towards the tail end of the week, Chicago will see a reprieve. According to the forecasts, Thursday will provide a mild respite before the city plunges back into a pool of heat that will scorch anything barefoot on the sidewalk, with Friday's highs projected in the mid to upper 80s. The weekend, unforgiving in its blaze, will bring "highs could be well into the 90s with heat indexes over 100," as FOX 32 Chicago reports.
