A Chicago man has been sentenced to 57 years in state prison for the attempted murder of his girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend at an Aurora gas station in 2022, the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office said in a news release on Tuesday.Byron Frazier, 32, of Chicago, was convicted in August of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery with a firearm and armed violence, along with an armed habitual criminal charge, according to the State’s Attorney’s Office.According to the release, at approximately 4:20 p.m. Aug. 18, 2022, a man pulled into the Mobil gas station at 1030 N. Lake St. in Aurora, where he had seen his ex-girlfriend’s car.After the man approached the vehicle, the ex-girlfriend’s current boyfriend, Frazier, came to stand next to the man, officials said. Frazier then reached into the vehicle, retrieved a handgun, and shot the man, according to the release.The man who was shot was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove and spent months confined to a wheelchair, the release said.Frazier and his girlfriend left the gas station, but were followed to her home by a member of the Illinois State Police, officials said. Frazier attempted to run away, but was pursued and taken into custody, according to the release.Under the sentence handed down by Kane County Judge John Barsanti, Frazier received 31 years in prison for attempted murder, of which he must serve 85%, the release said. The aggravated battery charge was merged with the attempted murder charge. He also received 20 years for armed violence, of which he must serve 50%, and six years for the armed habitual criminal charge, of which he must serve 85%, according to the release.The sentences will not be served concurrently, Tuesday’s release from the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office said.
