The Brief

CHICAGO - A man was shot early Wednesday outside a Chicago O'Hare International Airport terminal following an altercation between multiple people, police said – and another person was being interviewed.

O'Hare Airport shooting

The shooting happened just before 1 a.m. local time after a fight between several people broke out in the arrivals lanes of traffic outside Terminal 2, according to police. Police said they were interviewing at least one person in connection with the shooting.

A 25-year-old man was shot twice in the lower body. He was taken to Lutheran General Hospital where he was listed in stable condition, police said.

A bullet hole could be seen in the glass separating the terminal from the street.

The arrivals lanes at Terminal 2 were shut down amid the investigation. Airlines that use Terminal 2 include JetBlue, Air Canada and Alaska Airlines.

It was not immediately clear what led to the altercation before the shooting, or how many people were involved.

Police are pictured at the scene of a shooting at Chicago O’Hare Airport on March 12, 2025.

One witness told FOX 32 Chicago that it appeared to be automatic gunfire.

"I heard what sounded like just a rapid fire, like automatic fire," retired police officer James Van Schaick said. "I looked out of my window. I'm in the hotel right across the way and I saw people scattering, and I was at a high angle, so I couldn't see very well, but I saw people just scatter in both directions, and then I heard a bunch of single shots."
