Chicago police are on high alert following an attempted kidnapping in the city's West Side. Per a report by ABC7 Chicago , the unsettling event occurred on Sunday afternoon in the Austin neighborhood. A woman is said to have attempted to abduct a child from a backyard on the first block of North Lockwood Avenue at around 2:15 p.m.

According to the FOX 32 Chicago coverage, the child was playing with seven others when an unknown suspect entered the yard and physically removed her to a store across the street. The suspect's actions did not go unnoticed, as the child's relative soon confronted the offender and brought the young girl back home.

Authorities have disclosed that the alarming sequence of events was captured on video. The police have released a description of the assailant: an African American woman aged between approximately 20 to 25, known to frequent the vicinity of Lockwood Avenue and Madison Street. The search for the suspect is ongoing.

The Chicago Police Department is asking the public to be vigilant. If anyone spots the individual matching the suspect's description, they are encouraged to call 911 immediately.
