There are so many Kombucha options out there. How do you know you're getting a good one? Make sure you're picking the right Kombucha for you!

Choosing the right Kombucha is crucial if you want to get all the health benefits! If you don't know what Kombucha is, it's time for you to learn. We've got the Golden Rules of Choosing Kombucha, to make your probiotic journey easier!

So what is Kombucha?

Basically, it's a fermented tea. The ingredients are very simple: tea leaves, water, sugar, and a Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Yeast (SCOBY). I know, it sounds kinda gross, but I promise it's worth it! The SCOBY ferments the tea, giving the drink a light fizzy flavor along with a host of health benefits.

Why is it good for me?

It's pretty simple, really. Kombucha is full of probiotics. Probiotics are essential for gut health and promote healthy digestion. When you drink it, you're also downing millions of healthy microbes that keep your digestive system functioning properly.

OK, I'm sold. How do I pick the best Kombucha?

Well, there are a few golden rules you need to follow when buying Kombucha from a store!
1. Glass is Better Than Plastic
The fermentation process causes plastics to actually break down and mix with the Kombucha itself. It's important to always choose glass over plastic, to ensure you don't have any plastic mixed with your microbes.
2. No Artificial Flavors
There's nothing natural about "Natural Flavors!" Avoid these unnecessary additions as much as possible.
3. Darker Glass is Better
Exposing probiotics to light for extended periods of time damages them. That means you aren't getting all the health benefits they could be providing you with. Go for bottles made with dark glass, rather than clear.
4. Fewer Ingredients is Better
As we said above, Kombucha really only has four ingredients: water, tea leaves, sugar, and SCOBY. If the ingredient list on your bottle has more ingredients than you can count on one hand, pass on that brand.
5. Check for Vitamin B
Vitamin B is very important. If your bottle doesn't list it, that could mean it's been pasteurized with heat. This destroys a number of the healthy and natural vitamins that occur in Kombucha. Do yourself a favor and grab a different bottle.
Whether you're in the market for a detox after a long weekend, or you're just looking for an energy boost to get you through hump day, this fizzy tea drink has got your back! What's your favorite Kombucha? Tell us about it in the comments below!
