Former Republican state Rep. Chuck Basye announced Thursday that he is ending his bid for the 19th State Senate district.

In a post on Facebook , Basye said the decision came as he was recently diagnosed with cancer. He clarified in a radio interview that he is currently fighting prostate cancer.
