Rhode Island-based Citizens Bank will close 15 branches nationwide, including four branches in Massachusetts, by 2025. The company plans on closing these locations to “evolve and adjust branch strategy across our network,” Citizens said in a statement. “We’ve been on a journey at Citizens to evolve how our customers bank with us, and we continually review customer patterns,” the statement reads. “We look forward to continuing to serve customers through neighboring branches, as well as through our online and mobile banking platforms.” Three of the four Massachusetts branches are in-store branches, meaning they are located inside a supermarket. The Hyde Park and Bellingham locations will transform into an self-service kiosk known as “Citizens Virtual Assistant Experience,” according to the bank. Citizens will close other branches in New England, including one in Rumford, Rhode Island (275 Newport Ave.) and in Nashua, New Hampshire (122 Northeastern Blvd.). The company said it also plans on adding standalone branches “over the next several years” while “continuing our investment in digital and mobile capabilities.”
