HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (WBKO) - After 25 years, the City of Hopkinsville has broken ground on a new fire station today. According to the press release, Fire Station 5 is a significant step towards strengthening emergency services. “We’re thrilled to see this project come to fruition after years of dedication and hard work,” said Fire Chief and EMS Director Steve Futrell in a press release. “This new facility will not only serve as a state-of-the-art fire station but will also function as a regional training center. It will bring together hundreds of firefighters and EMS personnel, offering them an opportunity to advance their skills and expertise.” Since the last fire station was built, the city has expanded 5,000 acres and the fire department’s annual run volume has tripled. The Hopkinsville Fire Department covers up to I-24 with Station 4 on Eagle Way being the closest station. According to the press release, the distance results in longer response times, which can be a safety concern for residents. Fire Station 5 will be on 101 Walton Way near the South Park industrial area.
