Tanner Bibee was pushed into a larger role last year after a series of unfortunate events for the Guardians starting rotation. Now, the right-hander will be on the mound on Opening Day this season. Guardians manager Stephen Vogt told reporters in Goodyear, Ariz., that Bibee will take the ball to open the regular season. The Guardians rotation, which for years was a beacon of consistency, went through an uncommon amount of strife in 2024. Shane Bieber looked dynamic but could only make two starts before he needed Tommy John surgery. He fought back tears while talking to reporters about the injury. Gavin Williams also missed much of the 2024 season and wasn't the same pitcher once he returned. Then there's Triston McKenzie, who simply lost the strike zone and has been trying to find it ever since. All of it led to Bibee as the last man standing to be the No. 1 starter in the rotation. And, now, it's a title he'll keep heading into the 2025 season.
