PHOENIX (AZFamily) —A cold front is forecast to drop south through Arizona today, bringing gusty winds, cooler temperatures and rain and snow to some areas.

Look for partly sunny skies in the Valley today with a high of 76 degrees. Winds will turn westerly and should be fairly breezy at 15 to 25 miles per hour, with gusts to 30 miles per hour.

No rain is expected in the Valley today, but a trough of low pressure dropping south could bring some light showers to the deserts tomorrow. Rain chances are near 20% on Wednesday, with foothill locations and higher elevations north and east of the Valley seeing the best rain chances. Temperatures will likely stay unseasonably cool in the 60s on Wednesday afternoon.

A warming trend begins later this week, with lows in the 70s still Thursday and Friday but upper 70s expected on Saturday and low 80s returning Sunday. Next week will bring a ridge of high pressure and the return of the 90s.

Today marks the beginning of several days of rain and snow in the high country. Gusty winds will continue with much of Northern and Eastern Arizona under a Wind Advisory until 7 p.m. tonight. Portions of the Colorado River Valley in Apache County are also under a High Wind Warning for gusts to 60 miles per hour. The strongest winds across the state are expected around midday into the afternoon hours.

Light rain and snow are possible today in the mountains and are even more likely tomorrow. While today’s cold front has limited moisture, the trough of low pressure associated with this front should deepen and sink into Arizona on Wednesday, bringing in deeper moisture and better snow chances. Thanks to cold air, snow levels will also be fairly low, down to 4000 feet in some areas. Amounts will likely end up near 1 to 2 inches above 5000 feet and 2 to 5 inches above 7000 feet.

Lighter, scattered showers could continue in the high country with unsettled weather through the weekend.
