Colorado U.S. Senator Michael Bennet announced that Colorado has been selected as one of 12 states for the Regional Resiliency Assessment Program (RRAP).

The initial announcement was made by the Department of Homeland Security’s National Protection and Programs Directorate office of Infrastructure Protection (say that 5x fast). The Resiliency Assessment will assist in furthering better practices for Colorado's infrastructure.
The RRAP is a cooperative assessment of specific critical infrastructure within a designated geographic area and a regional analysis of the surrounding infrastructure resilience issues that could have regionally and nationally significant consequences” - Department of Homeland Security Official Website
For those of us who don’t speak Public Service, the Resiliency Assessment is basically a gauge for how well our current infrastructure is working (or not working), and how to improve the resilience of a region’s infrastructure. Overall, the RRAP aims to:
  • Resolve infrastructure security and resilience knowledge gaps
  • Informs risk management decisions
  • Identifies opportunities and strategies to enhance infrastructure resilience
  • Improve critical partnerships among the public and private sectors.
For the 2017 fiscal year, the resiliency study in Colorado will focus on data centers and internet service providers in the Denver Metro area. These centers and service providers serve as a vital hub for internet traffic and data services for some important services, like 911 call centers. The project will find weaknesses and dependencies to better improve the infrastructure that supports these centers.

Sick of big-city infrastructure? While the assessment works out the bugs, escape to some beautiful Colorado country roads
