The children were all under the age of 3.

The owner of Colorado Springs daycare Play Mountain Place, Carla Faith, 58, is currently under investigation after police found 26 children—all under the age of 3—hidden behind a false wall in the daycare's basement. Three workers were arrested on charges of misdemeanor child abuse and neglect. Those charges, however, were then canceled pending further investigation by detectives. 

According to a report by CBS Denver, Faith has not yet been arrested, as the detectives "pursue appropriate charges." 

The discovery of the 26 children behind the false wall began after complaints that Play Mountain Place had too many kids under its care than the license allowed. The Department of Human Services (DHS) called up the Colorado Springs Police Department to assist with a welfare check, which was carried out on Wednesday, November 13.

However, when police officers arrived, the children were nowhere to be found. Officers then attempted to contact Faith at her residence next door, which is where they heard children making noise. Investigators stated in a press release that "when officers walked down the stairs, they located two adults and 26 kids inside a finished basement, all of [whom] were under the age of three-years-old.”

This story will be updated as more information is made public. The Crimes Against Children Unit (CSPD) is managing the criminal portion of the investigation, while the DHS is handling all licensing matters.

"... call the childcare complaint line at 1-(800)-799-5876. If you suspect child abuse or neglect, call the Colorado Child Abuse and Neglect Hotline at 1-844-CO-4-KIDS (1-844-264-5437). Anyone witnessing a child in a life-threatening situation should call 911 immediately."
