Columbia, S.C. (WOLO)– The Columbia City Council has voted four to three in favor of repealing the ban on conversion therapy.
Conversion therapy is a form of therapy aimed at trying to change someone’s sexual orientation or gender identity.Supporters of the ban say it has been proven ineffective and can cause more harm than good.Also at issue in the debate is a provision in the state budget that would cause the city to lose more than $3 million in funding should the ban remain in place.The council will hold a second vote on repealing the ban at a future date.
