UPDATE: The Carter's opening has been put on hold until further notice. The story originally published noted it already was open based on previously provided information from Carter's.

A retailer focused on baby, toddler and young children apparel will eventually open and a cookie cake seller soon will officially celebrate its return to the Columbia Mall.

Carter's was to open Wednesday in Suite 330 with a full range of "on-trend, affordable baby and children’s clothing for preemie to size 14, (along with) gifts and accessories from Carter’s house of brands, including Carter’s, OshKosh B’gosh, Little Planet, and Skip Hop," a news release noted. That opening was delayed until further notice.

"We're thrilled to bring Carter’s to the Columbia community," said Paul Rabaut, senior director of go-to-market and retail marketing in the release. "With our signature quality, value, and on-trend styles, we’re making it easier than ever for parents to find everything they need for their growing families — all in one place."

When the retailer does open, it likely will include a grand opening giveaway, where the first 50 customers will receive a gift card worth up to $100, no purchase necessary.

Great American Cookie

Great American Cookie, known for its original cookie cake, is officially back at the Columbia Mall after a nearly five-year hiatus. Open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at Suite 5528, the first 50 customers will receive a free cookie cake slice.

Along with the cookie cake, the sweet treat eatery also has smaller cookies in a variety of flavors, brownies and what are known as double doozies, which is two cookies sandwiched with icing.

Great American Cookie was part of the wave of various businesses that closed locations due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. The Columbia Mall location had closed in August 2020. Other national and regional chains Columbia lost at the time include Ruby Tuesday and Houlihan's.
