The suspect involved in the shooting outside Columbia Mall, which tragically left one teenager dead and another critically wounded, has been found to have had multiple home monitoring violations leading up to the violent incident. Emmetson Zeah, 18, stands charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, and several other related crimes following the shooting last Saturday. Despite these charges and his history of criminal activity, including a past charge of attempted murder, Zeah was able to secure release on a $50,000 bond back in December.

According to a FOX Baltimore report, court documents disclosed that the home monitoring company, ASAP, was aware of Zeah’s infractions, which occurred on multiple days in February, yet waited for several days before notifying the court. GPS records from Zeah's ankle monitor placed him at the mall at the time of the shooting. He was under private home monitoring from a November incident just before he turned 18. With monitoring in place since January 8, violations on February 13, 14, 18, and 20 were noted. Still, the courts weren't alerted promptly about his failure to submit verification of whereabouts, raising troubling questions about the efficacy of such monitoring services.

This fatal incident has raised wider public safety concerns, particularly for those near the Columbia Mall. Locals like Hunter Brown expressed their unease, remarking on how the shooting could have affected anyone just passing by, not just the targeted individuals, as reported by CBS News Baltimore . While police have described the shooting as an isolated incident, the proximity of such a violent act has naturally left residents like Brown feeling on edge.
