From the Archives: Famous pop artist Andy Warhol visited Richmond several times



In April 1976, famed pop artist Andy Warhol – next to one of his Golda Meir portraits – was joined by New York gallery owner Ivan Karp and art collector Frances Lewis, one of the founders of the Best Products Co., at a private party in Richmond. The event celebrated Warhol’s donation of modern art to the Israel Museum in Jerusalem.

03-26-1975 (cutline): Controversial artists Andy Warhol whose paintings of Campbell's soup cans and Brillo boxes opened the door for the pop art movement of the 1960s, visited the Virginia Museum yesterday on a brief tour of Virginia. Warhol now is a producer whose projects have included the films "Frankenstein" and "Dracula."
