Walmart is one of the latest major retailers to become the target of nationwide boycotts after rolling back its DEI programs in response to President Donald Trump's recent crackdowns .

The chain joins other stores like Target , which similarly faced backlash after reversing its DEI policies. Though there are various boycotts currently taking place across the country, the largest effort is being led by The People's Union USA .

Here's what Walmart shoppers in Illinois should know.

When is the Walmart boycott?



The Walmart boycott begins on Monday, April 7 and will run for seven days until Monday, April 14.

What is being boycotted?



The leader of The People's Union USA, John Schwarz, shared a list of boycotted services on Instagram.

The economic freeze will affect purchases made at in-person stores, online and at Walmart's pharmacy, as well as the chain's financial services, grocery delivery and subscription services. The boycott will also include Walmart's private label brands, such as Great Value and Equate, and its membership-only warehouse, Sam's Club.

How many Walmarts are in Illinois?



Walmart has 136 supercenters in Illinois, as well as 14 discount stores and two neighborhood markets, according to the store website.

How many Sam's Clubs in Illinois?



There are 25 Sam's Clubs in Illinois.

Other upcoming boycotts



The People's USA has announced many more boycotts through July, with another economic blackout set to take place on April 18 and subsequent boycotts against General Mills, Amazon and more.

Similarly, the Latino Freeze Movement is urging the Latino community to hold back on spending wherever possible following DEI policy rollbacks, NIH funding cuts and various immigration actions.

The National Action Network, founded by Rev. Al Sharpton, said in a Feb. 25 news release that it will announce a boycott at the NAN Convention in early April.
