UPDATE 5:11 p.m.: Severe Thunderstorm Watch issued for Bailey, Briscoe, Castro, Cochran, Crosby, Floyd, Hale, Hockley, Lamb, Lubbock, Parmer, Swisher - continuing through midnight. A line of thunderstorms is expected to move out of eastern New Mexico into our region this evening. These storms could produce wind gusts up to 70 mph, along with some large hail approaching 2″, and heavy rainfall is expected too. These storms should weaken as they shift off the Caprock around midnight. LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - Thunderstorm chances will likely come from storm initiation in the higher terrain of New Mexico on Monday night. It still remains uncertain if the storms will survive their journey. Overall, chances look best for the northern portion of the viewing area to receive measurable rainfall. Temperature-wise, Monday night will be mild again with 50s and 60s for Tuesday morning lows. Cloud coverage and relatively high dew points will play a role in not letting temperatures fall too drastically. Tuesday will be another cloudy day, as no noticeable change in the weather pattern is expected. Storm chances for Tuesday remain minimal, but if storms can overcome the cap strength, the development will most likely be in the western portion of the viewing area. Overall, the work week is trending much cooler, with thunderstorm chances each afternoon, Tuesday through the weekend, and each day, some of these storms may become severe.
