EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEVV) — Several people are without a place to stay, after a fire ripped through a multi-unit home on Evansville's southwest side.

44News was first on the scene just after 2:00 a.m. in the area of Ewing Avenue and Emerson Street.

A Captain with the Evansville Fire Department told our crew on scene, all those living inside the home made it out safely.

Crews say they also recovered and rendered aid to several cats and various pets inside the home.

According to fire officials, the early morning blaze originated in a front living space of the home.

Investigators were on scene to find the source of the fire.
