SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — One victim was transported to the hospital with critical injuries following a house fire on New Avenue in Springfield on March 19.

Around 8:15 a.m. the Springfield Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 300 block of South New Avenue with reports of black smoke coming from the windows.

The victim was located inside the home during search-and-rescue operations. Firefighters and EMS provided immediate care on the scene and transported the victim to Mercy Hospital. The individual is listed in critical but stable condition.

The press release states there were no working smoke alarms inside the home.

The Bureau of Fire Prevention is still investigating the fire and more information will be released when it becomes available.
