AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - As the CSRA prepares for the chance of severe weather on Wednesday, some schools have announced closures. Others didn’t cancel classes but urged caution. For example, the University of South Carolina Aiken said classes and campus operations would continue as normal, but “we encourage you to use good judgment when traveling to and from campus.” “Students and employees should consult their professor or supervisor with situation-specific concerns,” the university said.
Richmond County
The Richmond County School System will hold a PowerUp Asynchronous Learning Day on Wednesday out of an abundance of caution. All extracurricular activities are canceled. Aiken County
The Aiken County Public School district says Wednesday will be an E-Learning day due to high winds exceeding safe bus travel conditions in the morning. Employees will operate on a two-hour delay with no arrivals before 10 a.m. After-school extracurricular practices, games and events will continue as scheduled. Other school districts:
The Storm Prediction Center currently has the CSRA in a marginal to slight risk for severe weather on Wednesday. Damaging winds with 40-60 mph gusts and isolated tornadoes are possible, mainly closer to the coast as a strong line of storms moves through early in the morning between 4 a.m. and 11 am. Heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms are likely for the entire CSRA. Behind the storms, it will stay windy with gusts of 30-40 mph through Wednesday afternoon.
