President Donald Trump announced on social media Sunday that Dan Bongino, conservative talk show host and Palm City resident, will be the deputy director of the FBI. Bongino was named to the role by FBI Director Kash Patel, who was confirmed by the Senate on Feb. 21, Trump wrote in his
Truth Social post. "Great news for Law Enforcement and American Justice!" Trump posted on his social media network, Truth Social, calling Bongino "a man of incredible love and passion for our Country." “My career has always been about service,” Bongino said in a
Feb. 24 news release . “I’m here to work. I’m here to lead. And I’m here to ensure that America’s law enforcement institutions uphold the values and integrity they were built upon.” Here's what to know about Bongino.
Who is Dan Bongino?
Bongino was born on Dec. 4, 1974, in New York. He worked with the New York Police Department and, from 1999 to 2011, he served as a special agent in the Secret Service and published two books on his experience. In one of his books, Bongino said he had access to "high-level discussions" in the White House under the Barack Obama Administration. A former colleague told
ABC News in 2013 that Bongino is “trying to draw attention to himself and he's hijacking the Secret Service brand. That's all he's got going for him.” Bongino was
publicly criticized by his former colleagues in the Secret Service and other conservative officials in Washington who accused him of leveraging his service for political gain. Once he left the Secret Service, he ran three unsuccessful campaigns for U.S. Congress as a Republican — twice in Maryland in 2012 and 2014 and once in Florida in 2016. He also hosted "Unfiltered with Dan Bongino" on Fox News from
2021 to 2023 and continues to make appearances on Fox News’ opinion programs. He even
joined Tucker Carlson on Sept. 11, 2024, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, for the Tucker Carlson Live Tour. He moved to Palm City, where he currently lives with his wife and two daughters, from Severna Park, Maryland, in 2015 to be closer to family, he told
TCPalm . "The weather is great, the beaches are spectacular, traffic is great and there's lots of good conservatives here. That matters to me," said Bongino about Martin County in
2021. What is Dan Bongino's podcast?
"The Dan Bongino Show" has new episodes every weekday tackling the latest political issues. Listeners can watch a live stream of the show every weekday at 11 a.m. on
Rumble , where he has over 3.5 million followers. Trump said in his post that Bongino is "prepared to give up" his program as he steps into the new role. "The Dan Bongino Show" was most recently the 56th-ranked podcast in the United States, according to Spotify.
Dan Bongino and Jonathan Dickinson State Park
Four days after plans for the Great Outdoors Initiative — which included proposals for recreational facilities in nine state parks — were confirmed by the state on Aug. 19, it was revealed an Oklahoma-based veteran’s nonprofit was behind a proposal to build three golf courses in Jonathan Dickinson State Park in Hobe Sound. Two days later, amid widespread public outcry, the Folds of Honor Foundation scuttled the plan — not through a news release or its website or social media accounts, but through Bongino. Bongino posted a statement on Facebook on Aug. 25, indicating it was from Folds of Honor and the
Tuskegee Dunes Foundation , which claimed responsibility for the plan that would have benefited the nonprofit. “I solved a problem for the local community,” Bongino told TCPalm in September. "I don't know how this thing started. All I know is I live here, and I donate to an unbelievable charity that said to me exactly what I put in their statement."
