We start the new week with winter weather alerts as we anticipate our next winter storm. They will begin to go into effect this evening and will continue into early Wednesday morning.

The bullseye where the heaviest snow totals are expected will be east of Wichita. Outside of the bullseye there will be a large swath of snow totaling 2″ to 4″. There will not be as much snow in extreme Southwest Kansas.

Before heavy snow arrives tonight there will be a small chance that areas north of I-70 get skimmed by some light snow during the day. There will also be a lot more cloud cover today too.

There will be a large spread in high temperatures. They will range from the teens to the low 50s, the coldest air will be to the north.

Snow chances gradually rise through the evening.

Overnight lows will be bitterly cold in the single digits and below zero. We will need to pack on the layers Tuesday morning as a northeast breeze makes it feel even colder.

We will also need to pack our patience for the Tuesday morning commute. Snow will be widespread and heavy at times.

Snow lasts through the day and the warmest it will get is the teens and single digits.

Extreme cold alerts go into effect Tuesday evening. Wind chills through Thursday morning will be as low as -15 to -30.

Snow tapers west to east through Tuesday evening. There could still be a few trailing snow showers during the night and into early Wednesday morning.

It will take a while to get out of the freezer but temperatures will be able to get above freezing just in time for the weekend.
