WASHINGTON, D.C. (7News) — The 46th Annual Washington Area Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Service was held Monday at the D.C. Police Memorial, honoring the lives of officers who were killed in the line of duty. Among the officers honored was Wayne David, who worked as an investigator with the Metropolitan Police Department. The 25-year veteran was killed in the line of duty when a gun he was retrieving at a crime scene accidentally went off in 2024. David's name is now inscribed on the Memorial Wall so that his legacy and impact live on. The officer memorial has honored fallen heroes since the Metropolitan Police Department was created by President Abraham Lincoln.
