Denver raised the minimum wage to $12.85/hr on January 1, 2020.

Denver workers, rejoice! The City and County of Denver has raised the minimum wage to $12.85. The order was put into effect on the first day of the new year, according to a press release by Wolters Kluwer Legal & Regulatory U.S.

For Denver, the minimum wage will continue to increase in the next few years, as follows:

  • January 1, 2020 – $12.85/hr
  • January 1, 2021 – $14.77/hr
  • January 1, 2022 – $15.87/hr

The minimum wage in the state of Colorado has also been raised, effective January 1, 2020. The new minimum wage across the state is $12/hr.

According to the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment, "No more than $3.02 per hour in tip income may be used to offset the minimum wage of tipped employees." This applies to both the Colorado state-wide minimum wage of $12 and Denver's minimum wage of $12.85 per hour.

Twenty-six other states and the District of Columbia raised the minimum wage, with 22 of them starting the change on January 1. "The highest rates in the nation are found at the municipal level. Seattle has the highest minimum wage rate at $16.00 per hour for large employers and $15.00 for small employers," according to the release. New York City raised its minimum wage to $15 for all employers.
