The first half of the weekend in the Mile High City will be pretty amazing and fairly warm, but the snow isn't too far behind.

This Weekend in Denver (February 21-22)

We all know that this kind of weather can't last, but that doesn't mean we can't enjoy it while it's here! After a magnificent Friday for everyone in Colorado, Saturday will come with even warmer temperatures, with highs in the mid- to upper-50s and partly cloudy skies moving in for the second half of the day.

With a storm coming in from the southwest, we have good news for the San Juan Mountains in southern and western Colorado—snow is coming for you! This is coming at a really good time because the average snowpack across southwestern Colorado just dipped below average. So with this upcoming snow, we should see that number jump back up to average, if not slightly above average. 

For Denver, Saturday will be generally a nice day. A few rain and snow showers are possible as we head into the nighttime hours, but it won't amount to much. A cold front will move through Saturday evening and drop temperatures into the 30s, where we will likely stay through much of the day on Sunday. Snow will fall from Sunday morning and continue through Sunday night before gradually ending during the evening hours. 

The forecast for accumulation is very tricky. All of the models agree on the track of this storm but they start to differ when you look at precipitation amounts. As of right now, I'm thinking we will end up with 1 to 3 inches of snow on Sunday for the metro area. We do want to point out that there are a few models hinting that the Denver metro may see more than 4 inches of snow. So, be prepared for tough driving and the potential for some heavy snow at times. Those in the Foothills and Plamer region will see 2-5 inches of snow.

A Glance Ahead (February 24-25):

By Monday, we are watching our next storm move in. This one will come from the northwest and may have more of an upslope component to it. With that said, the snow totals for Monday to Tuesday may be more than what we see on Sunday. 

If there is some good news to take from this, after Tuesday, it looks like we will dry out and warm-up for the remainder of the week. 

Currently, Denver has seen 16.5 inches of snow this month. We are tied in 11th place for the snowiest February on record. If we pick up 8 inches of snow before the end of the month, although not extremely likely, we will take the No. 1 spot for the snowiest February ever. To make the top 10, we'd need to see half of an inch of snow, which is likely. To make the top 5 snowiest February's ever in Denver, we will need to pick up 2 more inches of snow, which is also probable.
