PHOENIX — Construction of a new north Scottsdale sustainable luxury housing project broke ground on Thursday.

The high-end complex called Paloma will be built near McDonald Drive and Hayden Road.

Stakeholders, community members and Scottsdale City Councilwoman Solange Whitehead attended the groundbreaking ceremony.

MODUS Companies is the developer behind Paloma, with architecture by Drewett Works.

“ Ed Gorman and MODUS Companies have been at the forefront of in tegrating stunning architecture and net-zero construction for decades,” Whitehead said.

“Sustainability is about responsible stewardship for future generations and this project is a prime example of that commitment in action.”

Paloma will be designed to meet Net Zero Energy standards, which means the annual amount of energy it consumes is equal to the amount of renewable energy that it puts out, according to the Department of Energy.

Paloma will be built for homeowners that want to decrease their carbon footprint without sacrificing a high standard of living.

Plans for the project will comprise of six villas that will be near golf courses, Camelback Mountain and fine dining restaurants.

Each villa will feature three bedrooms, 3 1/2 bathrooms, open floorplans, private pools, cabanas and state-of-the-art architecture.

The lot was formerly the location of Scottsdale Mayor Sam Campana’s home.
