A Flood Warning has been issued, replacing the earlier Flash Flood Warning.

* WHAT…Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.

* WHERE…A portion of northern Virginia, including the following counties, Arlington, City of Alexandria, City of Falls Church and Fairfax.

* WHEN…Until 200 AM EDT.

* IMPACTS…Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS…
– At 1107 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the warned area. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain have fallen.

Parts of Arlington saw several inches of rainfall in a short period of time Friday night, causing streams to quickly rise.

Wow! In 54 minutes, 1.82 inches of rain fell in central Arlington.

Rainfall rates of 2 inches per hour… if you're in it, you get a quick burst of very heavy rainfall.

Earlier: A Flash Flood Warning has been issued for Arlington and other parts of the immediate D.C. area.

Storms producing very heavy rain have overspread parts of Northern Virginia including Arlington, potentially leading to life-threatening flash flooding.

* Until midnight EDT tonight.

* At 811 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 1.5 to 3 inches in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.

HAZARD…Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing flash flooding.

IMPACT…Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses.

Turn around, don’t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
