Tampa Bay Times reporter Gabrielle Calise explained how the first Gasparilla had a krewe that rode in on horses instead of a floating ship. Many other lesser-known facts from generations ago were exposed as she also highlighted aspects of recent history, such as how Gasparilla didn’t integrate until the 1990’s.
