CONCORD — The District 1 Class 6A championship is set, with top-seeded Perkiomen Valley and No. 2 Garnet Valley ready to clash Friday at 6 p.m. at Hagan Arena on the campus of Saint Joseph’s University.

This year’s tournament went as expected, with no major surprises, paving the way for a championship showdown between the top two contenders.

But make no mistake, Perkiomen Valley (24-3) enters as the clear favorite. The Vikings are the standard in District 1 girls hoops, and it’s been that way for a few years now. Garnet Valley (26-1) is more than comfortable in the underdog role.

“I know they are a great team. I know it’s a big stage and there are going to be a lot of people there,” Garnet Valley senior star Haylie Adamski said Wednesday. “I am excited to play Perk Valley.”

Garnet Valley is aiming for its second district championship in program history, having claimed the title in 2019. That team was led by Emily McAteer, the Daily Times Player of the Year, who is now an assistant under head coach Joe Woods.

The Vikings are the two-time defending District 1 Class 6A champions and have steamrolled their way toward a three-peat. Their postseason dominance has been staggering. They opened with a 53-6 dismantling of No. 16 Plymouth Whitemarsh, followed by a 69-36 rout of Conestoga, the same team Garnet Valley conquered for the Central League title earlier this month. In the semifinals, Perk Valley crushed No. 4 Central Bucks East, 54-27.

Loaded with talent at every position, the Vikings start five seniors, four of whom are committed to playing at the next level. Wake Forest-bound wing Grace Galbavy, who recently became the Pioneer Athletic Conference’s all-time leading scorer, leads the charge alongside imposing center Quinn Boettinger, a Naval Academy recruit. Point guard Bella Bacani is headed to Thomas Jefferson, while her backcourt partner Lena Stein will play at West Chester. Grace Milley is another guard who has been a key contributor for the Vikings.

Perk Valley’s only losses this season have come against national powerhouse programs Long Island Lutheran (N.Y.), Pewaukee (Wis.), and Montverde Academy (Fla.). In their 24 victories the Vikings are averaging more than 70 points per game. They cracked more than 80 points on eight occasions.

According to MaxPreps, Perk Valley and Garnet Valley rank sixth and seventh, respectively, among teams in Pennsylvania.

Garnet Valley’s only defeat was a 47-28 setback against Central League rival Haverford back on Dec. 17. In districts the Jaguars have double-digit wins over North Penn, Haverford and Upper Dublin. While the Jags may not be as high-powered on offense as the Vikings, they boast two elite scorers in Lafayette commit Haylie Adamski and dynamic point guard Kylie Mulholland, both of whom are 1,000-point career scorers and among the best talents in Delaware County. Adamski delivered down the stretch during Wednesday’s semifinal win over Upper Dublin, scoring 10 of her game-high 22 points in the fourth quarter to seal a 46-32 victory.

What the Jaguars lack in size they make up for with grit, hustle and relentless defense. Adamski is their only player standing 6-0 or taller, but their physicality and ability to pressure ball-handlers sets them apart. Savannah Saunders is a defensive standout who can also attack the rim and knock down shots from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, sophomore twins Addie and Kylie Adamski contribute across the board, providing versatility on both ends of the floor.

Neither team is likely to rely heavily on its bench unless foul trouble arises. However, if Garnet Valley needs reinforcements inside, 5-10 junior forward Katie Dwyer will be vital in battling 6-3 Boettinger in the paint.

Both teams will move on to the PIAA tournament next week. Perk Valley was stunned in each of the last two state tournaments, falling to Delco Catholic League heavyweights Archbishop Carroll in 2023 and Cardinal O’Hara in 2024. Carroll and O’Hara both went on to capture state titles in those seasons. Garnet Valley made an unexpected run to the state semifinals a year ago before falling to Spring-Ford.
