Two of the 10 missing Doberman puppies have been found after a breeder was killed in Clear Creek County, says the sheriff's office. A suspect has been charged.
Charges have been filed against Sergio Ferrer, 46, of Georgetown. He faces charges of first-degree murder and aggravated robbery—intent to kill/maim/wound with a weapon. Ferrer is being held without bond and is scheduled for a return filing of charges on September 9.
Paul Peavey was last seen on August 19 and reported missing on August 21. His body was then found the following Saturday morning by his neighbors and friends in the 1000 block of Two Brothers Road near Idaho Springs.
Peavey was a long-time Idaho Springs resident and breeder of Doberman dogs. On Monday, the Clear Creek County Sheriff's Office said many puppies (possibly as many as 10) are unaccounted for. Officials believe that finding his puppies may also help solve his homicide.
According to the Clear Creek County Sheriff's Office, the puppies may have been sold through social media. They also believe the sales may have occurred as early as Tuesday, August 20.
The puppies are microchipped, so anyone who purchased a Doberman puppy within the last week is asked to check the puppy for a microchip and contact the sheriff's office either by phone at 303-679-2393 or by email at [email protected].
In addition, anyone who has purchased a puppy through Peavey's business, Elite European Dobermans, since June is being asked to contact the sheriff's office—this includes those who received a puppy and those who did not.
If you have any information about Peavey's homicide, you can report your findings anonymously to the sheriff's office's website.
