VIRGINIA BEACH — A Virginia Beach man accused of leading a Virginia State trooper on a pursuit and striking her with a vehicle was arrested Wednesday afternoon. With help from the public, the Virginia Beach Police Department, Naval Criminal Investigative Service and Virginia State Police located the 2019 Dodge Charger at the 1100 block of Woodfern Place, a residential area with apartments off Waterfront Drive west of Birdneck Road. The driver, identified by police as 23-year-old Jayden Markel Wallace of Virginia Beach, was arrested and taken to Virginia Beach City Jail, according to an afternoon update. Wallace was to be charged with reckless driving, felony eluding, felony hit-and-run, and several other traffic offenses, according to a release. The case will be presented to the commonwealth’s attorney, who will decide if more charges will be placed. Shortly after 5 a.m., state police tried to stop the blue Charger they say was driven by Wallace for speeding on Interstate 264 east near Laskin Road. He was going 125 mph, according to a release. Wallace did not stop and the pursuit continued east on I-264 to the Birdneck Road exit, police said. After exiting the interstate, police said Wallace turned onto Americus Avenue, a dead-end road near the Virginia Beach Police Department’s Training Facility. The trooper pulled up behind. Police said Wallace tried to leave, accelerating toward one side of the trooper’s vehicle, but could not pass. The trooper got out of her vehicle, according to police, and tried to engage Wallace, who backed up and hit the trooper. He then drove to the other side of the trooper’s vehicle, heading toward Birdneck Road, according to a release. The trooper’s injuries are not considered life-threatening.
