The Dolphins have waived linebacker William Bradley-King and signed quarterback Brett Gabbert, the team announced Thursday.

Gabbert, the younger brother of former Jacksonville quarterback Blaine Gabbert, is an undrafted rookie free agent out of Miami (Ohio). Brett Gabbert participated in rookie minicamp with the Dolphins earlier this month.

The 24-year-old Brett Gabbert, listed at 6 feet, 210 pounds, becomes the fourth quarterback on the Dolphins’ roster aside from starter Tua Tagovailoa, backup Zach Wilson and rookie seventh-round pick Quinn Ewers, who played at Texas.

The Dolphins’ thinking at quarterback isn’t totally known but it’s assumed Wilson, the No. 2 pick of the 2021 draft by the New York Jets, will be the primary backup to Tagovailoa.

Gabbert started 53 games in his six seasons at Miami, totaling 80 touchdowns and 30 interceptions along with being a three-time All Mid-American Conference selection and a four-time Academic All-MAC selection.

It’s likely that Wilson, Ewers and Gabbert get the bulk of the practice snaps during OTAs (Organized Team Activities), minicamp and training camp.

Nowadays, starters get most of their work during joint practices while backups get the snaps during practices and preseason games.

The Dolphins announced dates and times for their three preseason games Thursday.

The Dolphins will have at least one joint practice against all three opponents. Teams are limited to a total of four joint practices.

Bradley-King, who spent last season on the Dolphins practice squad, was a 2021 seventh-round draft pick by Washington out of Baylor. He appeared in four games with the Commanders in the 2021-22 seasons.
