ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - This summer, you’ll be seeing new messages from Donate Life Virginia, dispelling some of the common myths surrounding organ donations.

This campaign features a mermaid and began running in the Roanoke Valley at the end of April.

Donate Life Virginia says organ donors can each save up to 8 lives. Tissue donors can help up to 75 people.

“At the end of the day, every recipient has been so grateful, no matter what they have to do post transplant to keep that, that organ happy and living and thriving, they will do it. Because that moment to walk the daughter down the aisle, to see your kids graduate, to reach those important life milestones, they will do anything to get to those moments,” Executive Director Lara Malbon said.

Donate Life Virginia says more than 2,400 Virginians are waiting for life-saving organ and tissue donations.

People can sign up to be an organ donor through Donate Life Virginia or through the DMV .
