Recycle your Christmas tree with Denver’s Treecycle initiative!

Getting rid of your Christmas tree has never been easier thanks to Denver’s Treecycle program! Denver Recycles/Solid Waste Management’s annual Treecycle program helps keep trees out of landfills, and reduces greenhouse gas emissions! What better way to wrap up the holidays than helping our Earth! This year Treecycle collections will occur on the weekends of January 7th & January 14th. There will be no weekday collections. Here’s how you can get on board:
  • Remove all decorations, lights and tree strands. Only natural (real) trees are collected for the program. That means NO artificial or flocked trees are accepted.
  • Set your tree out for collection no later than 7 a.m. on Saturday January 7th or January 14th.
  • Reclaim free mulch made from your tree at the annual Mulch Giveaway & Compost Sale in May!
That’s right! Your contribution will help create mulch that is available to Denver residents for FREE at the Annual Treecycle Mulch Giveaway & Leafdrop Compost Sale in Spring! Treecycle

There are a few things to remember, though, as you prepare to participate in Denver’s Treecycle!

  • Christmas trees should be set out in your regular trash collection location at 7 am either the weekend of January 7th or 14th. Trees may be collected on Saturday or Sunday.
  • Don’t place trees in bags, carts, dumpsters, or trash cans.
  • Be sure to set your trees at least 2 feet away from trash or recycling container carts and any other obstacles.
  • Trees will not be collected by Extra Trash crews during the first two weeks of January
  • After January 15th, trees can be dropped off at the Cherry Creek Recycling Drop-off site.
Treecycle was a huge success - Denver residents recycled close to 20,000 trees. Take your part in this year’s Treecycle program and help Denver recycle even more this year!
